Peter du Plessis moved to Auckland from South Africa in 2006 with his wife and son, but before long started looking for a more relaxed lifestyle. They found it in Stratford, Taranaki.
“Life here is a lot more relaxed and laid back. We no longer have to get up early in the mornings to beat the traffic to work - work is only a 10 minute drive and school is walking distance,” says Pieter.
Moving to Taranaki has provided the family with a sense of security and peace they couldn’t find elsewhere, as well as more time to enjoy being a family.
“We are now able to focus on our family and the things we enjoy doing together, like exploring the local walkways, the ski field and Mount Taranaki, playing tennis and swimming.
“The best part of all is that these activities are only minutes from our new home. We have found peace and tranquillity here, but can also to enjoy activities and be active when we feel like it. Taranaki offers the perfect balance between relaxation and recreation!
The family were also attracted to the rural setting, and the cheaper real estate prices than in Auckland.
“The Taranaki countryside is just absolutely breathtaking, especially when the sun sets and the sky turns bright red, behind the snow-covered peak of the mountain.
“Taranaki has turned me into a passionate photographer - the scenery is sometimes just too spectacular for words. I carry my camera with me whenever we leave the house,” says Pieter.
“I’ve also go back into cycling. While I was always a keen cyclist I found the Auckland traffic a bit daunting. That’s not the case in Taranaki.”
Pieter works a few minutes’ drive down the road in Eltham, as a Maintenance Planner with Fonterra. The diversity of the role and interesting challenges keep the job stimulating and rewarding, and he has found Fonterra an excellent company to work for.
“We consider ourselves very fortunate to be part of this beautiful area that is Taranaki. It’s a wonderful place to live and enjoy all the good things life has to offer.”
