Oranga Tamariki, the Ministry for Vulnerable Children, is in the community every day seeking to make a positive difference to the lives of children, young people and their whanau. We are looking for an outstanding leader for the Taranaki Youth Justice Team.

Our community-based Youth Justice teams work in partnership with whānau, Iwi, Police, Courts, youth workers, schools, and community organisations to find local solutions to youth offending and build safer, stronger communities. We engage with young people who are offending, help them put things right and support them to make positive changes in their lives.

As Youth Justice Manager, you will manage a team providing quality services for young people, whanau, courts and other stakeholders. You will participate in the senior regional management team making a contribution to the development and performance of the whole region. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the transformation of social services in New Zealand by developing a responsive youth justice team aligned with our new organisational direction.

You will demonstrate commitment to the Youth Crime Action Plan as you will lead and strengthen core relationships with NZ Police, Youth Offending teams, local Iwi and community groups, as well as Oranga Tamriki internal and external stakeholders across Taranaki.

Your astute business acumen will allow you to effectively manage financial and human resource accountabilities, and mitigate risk. Your strong people management experience will be of benefit as you provide clear direction to your team leading them in a climate of change.

To be successful in this interesting and challenging leadership position, you will have:

proven experience in successfully leading and managing service delivery operations
strong expertise in business planning, financial management, resource allocation and performance monitoring processes
able to embrace and manage change
aptitude in leading multi-disciplinary teams
a record of genuine engagement with both internal and external stakeholders
experience in the youth justice or social services sector is an advantage
excellent computer, verbal, written and interpersonal skills
a current full 'clean' driver's licence.
