The South Taranaki District Council is seeking a unique individual to become part of the Regulatory Services Unit in the role of Animal Management Officer.

This role offers a combination of field work and general administration tasks. Every day is different, you may be investigating multiple issues such as picking up a roaming dog or responding to complaints one day; to investigating a significant dog attack or dealing with stock on the road the next.

The Animal Management Team promotes better care and control of dogs, provides public education, maintains pound facilities including feeding, cleaning and dealing with unwanted animals.

The ideal applicant will have all or the majority of the attributes listed below, but the most important criteria is to have the passion, potential and drive to do the job.

Self-motivation and the ability to work under pressure
Excellent customer service and people skills
experience and confidence when handling dogs and stock
Excellent communication and computer skills
The ability to prioritise and manage timeframes
Experience in conflict resolution and negotiation
A helpful, empathetic attitude, whatever the situation
A current (clean) drivers licence and be able to drive a manual vehicle
Either, hold, or be eligible to obtain a firearms licence
A sense of humour and be an effective team member
